Scott Smith’s Cowboy Hardware got its start when Scott ordered his first set of cinch buckles and conchos to fit the custom made saddle he had been dreaming of for years. He was intrigued with the detail in the craft of a silversmith and decided he would try his hand at making a belt buckle. From there, Scott began tinkering around with metal work as a hobby, building on the basics he had been taught by his father who had a background in welding and had started making bits and spurs in the 1970’s. Scott set up shop in the family’s “abandoned” dairy barn and began creating pieces for family and friends. Word of mouth spread and he began receiving local orders. A few years later, he attended Weyert’s Engraving School in Alpine, Texas to enhance the skills he had developed in earlier years and continued to innovate in his design and engraving.
Scott takes pride in each and every piece he creates and his mission is to provide a high functioning, high quality product in every custom order. His work has been used in all areas of horsemanship including barrel racing, roping, cutting and polo. With the help of some kind saddle makers, satisfied customers and a website, Scott has grown his work around the country and even ventured into a few international locations – one custom made piece at a time.
